A Collection of Odd Birds
Paintings and drawings
Why exactly this fascination with birds? First of all, they are smart, beautiful and funny. Some of the more than 11,000 species are delicate, like the hummingbird. Other birds are rock hard (Albatrosses, for instance, can fly around 10,000 kilometres without landing). Birds can be found all over the world in all habitats: from deep in the rainforest to the open sea, as well as in primeval Dutch meadows or in cities. There is no habitat they have not colonised. By the way, did you know that birds are the closest living relatives of crocodilians?
How do birds adapt to this rapidly changing world?
In Juffermans' work, he has provided a possible answer to this question. The future mutations of bee-eaters, titmice, hummingbirds, sparrows, kingfishers, penguins, flamingos, eagles, kiwis, warblers, crows, cockatoos, plague birds and owls have all been reviewed in Juffermans' work over the past 13 years. He gave them harpoon beaks, masks, antennae, or, for example, tattoo machines as heads. Altogether quite a collection of strange birds!
