Apocalypsis Leydenensis

Triptych

In 2016, I started working on a monumental work. Inspired by Lucas van Leyden and Hieronymus Bosch, among others, I got the idea of creating a contemporary triptych in which I would depict the classical themes of heaven, earth and hell in my own way. I wanted to capture the epic nature of the depictions on classical triptychs and bring them back to a micro level. Now, after six years and more than 1250 hours on, it's finished

The result is Apocalypsis Leydenensis or The Revelation of Leyden. Leyden after an apocalypse. The world after the demise of man, where battles rage for survival through new hybrid life forms. The result is a world of vivid images that are both disturbing and charming, both alienating and extremely familiar.
