Paintings and drawings
Early works from the Unnatural Selection project.
Over the last fifteen years I have developed a powerful post-apocalyptic vision of the future in which nature has appropriated what humanity has produced. People themselves have disappeared, or possibly gone extinct, but the remains of human civilization are not simply overgrown by wilderness and forgotten; instead, new biotopes have emerged among the ruins where surreal life forms, half animal and half machine, are crawling and buzzing, nesting and hunting.
WARBUGS
In the Warbugs series, I depict the insects of the future. If you think that today's insects correspond to contemporary weapons of war (an association that underlies this series), it will come as no surprise that their evolution has only reinforced this. The violent nature of the universe and life (kill or be killed) reduced to the small scale of the insect world.
THROUGH A KEYHOLE
“Through a Keyhole” was the name of an exhibition held in 2017 at the GO gallery on Prinsengracht in Amsterdam. During this exhibition, six artists from Leiden, also known as the Key City, presented new work.
I invited five other artists: Remi de Ligny, Erik Hudson, Peter Zuur, Michiel van der Born, and Remko Koopman. These artists create work in a variety of styles and techniques but are connected by their meticulously detailed designs.
